Young Kara O'Keefe couldn't guess the ramifications of pawning her grandfather's violin - after all, with her father dying of cancer, paying the bills are more important than her musical future - but upon entering Yesterday's Dreams, a seemingly innocent pawn shop, Kara finds herself the centre of an evil's desire to posses both her and her violin.  Aided with the help of the pawnshop's owner, a Sidhe (elf) sworn to protect the clan O'Keefe, Kara will soon come to fight the battle of her life and along the way, discover her own unknown genetic heritage,

This is an entertaining, Charles De Lint type urban fantasy adventure.  Author Ackley-McPhail creates an interesting group of characters and moves them about a fast paced yarn.  Her delivery is a little naive at times: a little excessive with similes and her evil misses the mark being more menacing than anything, but overall she pulls off a pleasant story.
