The Nesaks and the Vrellish are two civilizations that have distinctly different values and beliefs. After a war resulting in many casualties on both sides, it was agreed that an arranged marriage between Princess Beryl Nesak and Hangst Nersal, Liege of the Black Vrellish, would signify an end to the war.
Righteous Anger is the second volume of the Okal Rel Saga and begins eleven years after the arranged marriage of Beryl and Hangst. Their three sons Zrenyl, Branst and Horth exhibit sibling camaraderie and conflict that, we can relate to and consequently draws us to them affectionately. Horth, the youngest child and focus of this volume, is uniquely gifted but often underestimated by others as a result of his limited ability to express himself verbally. Frequently called a “rejak’t”, Horth soon demonstrates strength with the sword that will gain him respect granted to very few.
Righteous Anger takes the reader on an exciting and captivating journey following the lives and political challenges of each member of the Nersal family. Once again I was very appreciative of the depth of the characters and found myself stealing moments to learn more about their struggles and ultimately the life rendering decisions each would make. The turmoil of the characters corresponds with the political turmoil between the two civilizations and builds to an explosive climax that would be difficult for any reader to anticipate or deny. Volume one, The Courtesan Prince, is not a required read to fully appreciate this book although I thoroughly enjoyed getting reacquainted with some familiar people. Bring on the third volume!
